Stayed at San Simeon State Beach last night. The ride over from Big Sur was pretty. I think it’s prettier than the Oregon Coast although not by much.
I could also see sea otters from high above the ocean. I wouldn’t have noticed them at all had they not been barking.
Quite a warm, dry day. I stopped at every watering hole (2) to refill the bottles. I also stopped for a chocolate malt at Ragged Point. Rough life. I reckon I’ll wear a shirt most of today to help prevent dehydration and over-tanning!

At San Simeon, we met three other tourists. Monte just got laid off a job up at Cloverdale and figured he would go bicycling for a little while.
Friederick is from West Germany and is spending four weeks seeing part of the West Coast. He doesn’t speak a whole lot of English, so we don’t know a whole lot about him. [I was the only person who spoke even a smattering of German, enough to translate the “four weeks” part.]
The third guy is rather odd. He has most of his gear on the rear end of the bike. Up front, connected to the wheel, is a small two-cycle engine. Above that, on the handle bar is a radio and speaker taped tight. Last, has a huge flashlight wired to the cross beam of his frame. He’s wearing hiking boots, cut-offs and a motorcycle helmet.
Just goes to show that anyone can bicycle across America if he or she has the desire.
