Wonderful day. I had to pull off the T-shirt early on. We made fairly good time across the produce belt north of Monterrey. I recalled with nostalgia the day three years ago when I came across the three cyclists who had been riding around the world for Project HOPE.
It is strange riding past fields of artichoke, cabbage and strawberry. I guess I’m too used to fields which are at least waist-high in corn or barley or wheat. And the pumpkins! Lord are there pumpkins right now! People are out shopping for their Halloween jack-o-lanterns.
After Monterrey, we began climbing into the mountainous coastline of Big Sur. Oh, push those legs.

Forgot to mention that while I was at San Fran, I did indeed receive mail. Bill B. sent my last university pay check along with a couple letters and a photo post card that is, shall we say, quite bonny. It was a B&W photo that Larry T. shot of a mutual friend.
I also got letters from three friends who are in college. Beth C. had a letter waiting for me. She wrote about school and life and meeting new people. Her letter was full of emotion and desire.
A note from Gayle G. arrived the second day. I was a little surprised to see a letter from her. She wrote about classes and life. I think she’s growing a lot inwardly.
Last, I got a long letter from Anne M. What a delight. She wrote about grad school and life. Hers was a letter of envy and satire!
