Curry B. Freeman, an academic major from Ashdown, was the editor who ran a contest to pick a new name for The University Weekly. Elmo Kent submitted "The Arkansas Traveler" as the winning choice. Freeman was a member of Sigma Nu, Eta Eta Eta, Pi Delta Epsilon, the Garland-Lee Society and the YMCA. He also edited the Razorback yearbook and served on the staff of the Arkansan magazine.
