1948 Arkansas Traveler

In 1948, staff members of The Arkansas Traveler covered what was perhaps the biggest story in the university's history since its establishment in 1871. Silas Hunt enrolled in the university's law school, becoming the first African-American student to enroll in a traditionally white university in the Old South since Reconstruction. Bob Douglas wrote the story, and Robert McCord took photographs for an "Extra." Another former Traveler staff member, Robert Leflar, was dean of the law school.
